We ran down the street -
the scene’s on repeat -
Abandoning all that weighed more
than the clothes on our backs;
Leaving our tracks,
embracing what we came here for.

After the flood –
The fire around us
Our fate in the water –
There wasn’t a doubt that this must be the place in us
we’ve always known

We walked back beguiled,
weightless, we smiled;
Brazen in our bulletproof youth;
Our tongues caught the tears
they’ve sent from the spheres,
so we’d have some light to shed;

Something to keep/give
In case of rupture,
In case of fracture;
Each afternoon we were born again –
Orphans to the world.

We bled in colours they could not see
we bruised and rusted,
skinned our knees;
We bled in floods they could not flee,
the pain reminded - we were free;
